About me

I found myself being in situations from a young age where people would share their stories and I would share my wisdom. I was regularly told I was a good listener and the things I shared with them (mostly just support, as I had no idea then) were well received.
As a result of varied childhood experiences and my own innate tendencies, I had a strong sense of fighting for justice, for supporting people out of unnecessary suffering, and life-long learning.
Life intervened and after marrying young, having four children who have brought me great joy (and yes, sometimes challenges!), I started thinking when my fourth child was ready to start high school that it was my time to plan for the future when my parenting role would significantly change.

My qualifications

As a mature age student, I stepped into a world at university which was initially overwhelming. After much deliberation, I successfully completed a double degree in Social Welfare and Arts with a major in Indigenous subjects.
I later completed a Graduate Certificate of Social Science (Male Family Violence).
I am also a full member of Community Work Australia.

My experience

My first role out of university was in child protection, then I worked at a prison in rehabilitation and counselling. I had a couple of roles in leadership, but I went back to my love of counselling working in various roles with people that were living with addictions, family violence and trauma.
I was about to say not all at once, but sometimes it did occur, or sometimes two out of three… So I have built solid experience working with people that have experienced trauma and have engaged in various training to ensure my methods are appropriate and trauma-informed.

More about me...

I can’t quite work out if I am an introverted extrovert or an extroverted introvert, but I guess you would get a sense of what I am trying to say.
I enjoy my own company and have home hobbies such as knitting and sewing. I also enjoy meeting people and my preferred way to do this is through travel, with plans to tour Australia over the next few years in my little caravan. I have recently joined a local art group as I really would love to learn to draw well…
